When Love's Liqueur
When love’s liqueur has just been quaffed and drained,
And your sweet flesh lies pressed against my own,
That blessed moment lingering, yet unwaned,
Thy presence filling, soothing, to the bone,
Then all the world and all its pains and woe
Dissolve until there’s nothing but thy touch,
And time, no longer passing, swift or slow,
Gets tossed away like some unneeded crutch.
Senses having stretched the bounds of being,
Mind unmoored to float and rise aloft,
Eyelids much too heavy to be seeing,
Skin so unimaginably soft:
Age-old wine in casks completely new,
My universe completely fills with you.
